Why are you (vegans) so angry?

Why am I personally so angry? I've been working on that, and I'm not nearly as angry as I used to be. It's an ongoing process though, but I am much happier than I used to be.

Why are vegans in general so angry? Vegans live in a very anti-vegan society. We are ridiculed and treated as outcasts for having moral beliefs that run contrary to what most people do without thinking every day. We have to deal with people joking about how much they love meat, people claiming to be vegan but still having a little fish/cheese/honey every now and then (NOT VEGAN), and ex-vegans who try to make everything we do seem so fucking hard. (No really, it's not hard! Go get a decent cookbook and try it for yourself.) When we go to a restaurant, we have to ask a ton of questions, and sometimes end up with the same old dry salad, pasta primavera, or steamed vegetables. We're treated as outcasts for putting our moral beliefs above convenience or comfort.

It's not hard (just avoid non-vegan-friendly restaurants), but non-vegans (and even some vegans) make it fucking annoying sometimes. But even so, once someone knows what animals suffer to create or become food, how can anyone go back? What other choice is there? (This is a rhetorical question.) I for one will not sacrifice my principles for taste. In the meantime, until the world realizes just how fucked up eating other creatures is, I'm going to do everything I can to dispel the myth that vegans are always angry.

  1. I'm not angry. I feel bad for the non-vegans. So many people walk around doing what everyone else is doing. The rationale given for this behavior are vast, including it's proper society or it's what he/she has always done. It's really sad.

    Thanks for the post.

  2. I've been vegan for almost two years. I get everything from comments to laughs to outright insults for being vegan, and it's taken some work on my part to not get upset when it happens. It's good to hear that others feel this way. However, in your response to this question, you curse often. If you are trying to dispel the "anger" myth, why the abrasive language?
All in all, keep up the good work!

  3. Oh man, people have asked me this.

Something like "Ever since you are vegan, you hate everything" and it's like... Duh! Because everything is just disgusting LOL.

I try to breathe in, and take the joke whilst taking the opportunity to back slap them, because quite frankly, they cannot refute my arguments. So all in all, the pleasure of being right in the end makes the unpleasant stupid jokes fade away pronto.

  4. I don't care any more about what you put in your mouth than what comes out the other end. The smartest mammals are predators.
